A Clinical Investigation On The Pain Complaints Of Neuropsychiatric Patients


Abstract
The analysis of psychogenic pain complaints, excluding organic causes, of 173 patients who were admitted at neuropsychiatric dept. of Paik Hospital from Jan. 1, 1979 to Oct. 31, 1980 according to diagnosis & location of pain showed the followings.
1) Pain was the chief complaint in 40.14% of patients.
2) Among the patients who complained of pain, there were more females than males.
3) The diagnosis of patients who complained of psychogenic pain were in the following order; hysterical neurosis, depression, schizophrenia and anxiety neurosis.
4) Analysis of the location of pain showed that head was the most frequent location. Next, hysterical neurotics complained of musculoskeletal pain where as depressive patients anxiety newotics and schizophrenics had more complaints of gastrointestinal pain
